It has certainly been a while, but that sure sounds like the tag the state of California used to fasten beside the VIN number to authorize a year of first sale.

Oh, but I do, Bill.  So correct me if I am wrong, but it would seem that it was you who made that assertion, and I who said there was no evidence for it in California law.  Now, about the proof to the contrary?
