Ok, my 2 cents.

First, it sounds like driver software is corrupted (either from virus or 
just bad luck.)

I guess it is most likely in the TWAIN driver.

I'm a die hard Brother fan, BTW and recently bought a HP Color LaserJet 
Pro M283fdw Wireless All-in-One Laser Printer that I couldn't be happier 
with.

What I'm about to say goes against EVERYTHING I believe, In fact, I have 
to start it by saying I HATE!!!!!!! Smart phones and the apps on them.  I 
believe the ONLY apps that should exist are the ones before an entree. 8>)

With that said, there are "photo to PDF" apps that you use your phone to 
just take a picture of the page and it converts it to a PDF (or other 
format.)  They are often free and really are faster than a scanner.

Maybe try that and give up on the scanner for now.

Again, I HATE that I suggested that, but I think it will work for you.
