What about a unit with an output for a remote alarm, plus a separate alarm
(if necessary)?  Eg,

The separate alarm could be a cheap burglar alarm unit, or as simple as a
wall wart power supply & Sonalert from Radio Shack if you're willing to do
just a bit of wiring.
