Well, yeah, but then you just confuse the next owner. How will he know where to source his u-joint?

At least, that’s my response to a lot of ad hoc “upgrades” — it may be convenient for you, at this time, but it is not serving to "preserve the breed" (hifalutin phrase), and it may even be making you a dreaded PO.

It should be simple enough to find the bona fide article, and no modifications or technical expertise required.
