[Mgs] Exhaust Sound

 I just returned from the muffler shop to see about replacing the "cherry bomb" muffler with something a little more quiet and deep.  When it was put up on the lift the single muffler looked like a stock MG muffler painted red, not a typical cherry bomb glass pack muffler.  APT in Riverside (10 minutes from my house) sells a Maniflow performance system for $350.  I'm not sure I would be any better off sound wise with it.  Now I am thinking of just buying a stock resonator and muffler from Moss and having the muffler shop put them in and be done with it.

I think the comment that stainless steel has a harsher sound than mild steel is also relevant.

But mainly, I’m too cheap to spend the money on something that isn’t an appearance or a performance item. In fact, the exhaust system on my car right now is a freebie cast-off from a local acquaintance who was “upgrading”. The local exhaust shop welded up a few holes and put in a new muffler for less than $100. In service since the early 90s.

About 2 or maybe even 3  years ago I bought a stainless steel exhaust for my MGA from Moss since they were on sale.
 

It still looks absolutely brand new.  Of course, its also still in the box.
