[Mgs] clutch/trans question

Agree, my roller bearing recently collapsed, but it can happen with carbon 
as well as that failed in a similar way previously.  The problem is that the 
release arm is rarely concentric with the first-motion shaft on the MGB (at 
least), so pressure on the bearing and cover-plate is not equal all round, 
which causes rapid wear one side.  Knackered bearing and offset here

mine was particularly bad, and I had to machine the pivot bolt hole one side 
and put a spacer on the other to bring it closer into line.  For that reason 
roller-bearings aren't the be-all and end-all for the MGB.  You may be lucky 
and have better alignment, maybe not.  Modern cars, the factory V8 and 1500 
Midgets do have them as standard, but there is a guide tube round the shaft 
which keeps the bearing concentric.
