That the BN1s had both satin and wrinkle finishes is interesting.
My June 1956 BN2 has the optional chromed air filters, but a regular painted rocker cover.

The air filters on #923 were a satin black. I do believe them to be original, though tthe car had the optional chrome valve cover which I believe would have included chrome filters.

Gentlemen,
This raises a ‘change-over’ question.
I have seen both Satin Black and Crackle Black on BN1 air filters.
1. At about what engine number might the change to Hammertone Green been made?
2. Was both Satin and Crackle black used on the BN1 filters – or is one correct, and the other not?
Cheers,
Mark

Michael,
Absolutely, they were painted the same Hammertone green. I have restored two originals that definitely had green paint on the front, back and mesh.

I'm restoring the air filters on my low mileage BN2. The front and
back plates of the filter assemblies are still painted with the
original green hammertone paint but there is absolutely no evidence of
green paint anywhere on the perforated grille which covers the filter elements.
As far as I can tell these appear to have been unpainted mild steel.
Does anyone know for sure whether these were painted?
