Thanks Michael:

I had seen that post, and did see that there was no answer based on experience!

Al--

Here's a link to the site showing my question and the responses: https://www.celicasupra.com/threads/flat-towing-question.120149/

The answer is still a mystery to me, and no opinion seems to be based upon empiric evidence but rather "generally accepted wisdom".

I have a really cool tow rig that attaches to a set of the usual tow eyes that bolt to the longitudinal frame members. I've never towed my Healey much further than 50-75 miles and the car tracks wonderfully with the steering following along nicely, though one can only tow in a forward direction.

I'd love to have a definitive answer!

For those of you who have converted to the Toyota 5-speed: can you confirm it is OK to tow the car with the rear wheels on the ground?

I towed a prior Healey with a Toyota W58 across country, and don’t recall having to remove the drive shaft – but can’t be sure…

Michael Oritt- Did you ever get an answer on the Celica forum to whether the W58 can be flat towed?

I need to tow my Austin-Healey with W58 for about 300 miles [Las Vegas to Los Angeles].

For those of you who don’t actually know and want to speculate: Yes, I do know I could jack up the car, disconnect the drive shaft, secure the shaft in a way it doesn’t let the fluid leak out nor fall off the car, and then repeat in the business lot where I am delivering the car.

Al Fuller
