I don’t know about a 100-4 but with my BT7 I find it better to remove the transmission and OD as a unit. The tunnel on the BT7 also interferes with removal and installation. It is difficult to align the third motion shaft when you mate the OD to the transmission on the car. Also, you will need to tie down the pump plunger which is also easier to do with the assembly out of the car.

 

You will need to lift the engine, tranny and OD as a unit and high enough to obtain the clearances you need to remove the OD. You most likely will need to loosen the motor mounts to do this. There may be other things you need to disconnect so you don’t bend or break things when you lift them. The engine will need to be supported during all of this work. Also, be careful that the fan does not tilt into the radiator and damage it.

 

As counter intuitive as this might seem, it could be easier to remove the engine, transmission and OD as a unit. It takes me less than two hours to do so and about the same amount of time to reinstall it. The only difficult part is easing the assembly out of and back into the hood opening.

Good afternoon everyone,

I am trying to remove my od without removing the tranny.  I know it is not a great way to go, but I am into it. Do I lift the od and tranny as a unit and if so how high do i dare Iift the unit without damaging something? I have separated the od and tranny about 2 inches and have the od slid back so it is sitting on top of the 2 rubber mounts. The chassis keeps me from sliding it back any further back unless I can raise the tranny/od high enough to clear the chassis. I would appreciate any advice.
