[Healeys] pilot bush quest

It measures 3/4” long – 19mm.   Being phosphor-bronze it must be soaked in oil before pressing in.

 

I echo Bob’s question  . . . if it doesn’t go all the way in, there might be crud in the hole obstructing full insertion.

I don't have a first motion/input shaft to look at, but I don't recall a flange or step that would prevent the shaft from going fully into the flywheel (something in the pilot bush hole could, though). However, I'd want to know why the bush won't go in fully; is it the wrong part, or is there crud in the hole, or ...

try as I may I cannot get the pilot bush to seat flush in the motion shaft opening.  if I do not get it flush against the ridge in the opening will this prevent the shaft from going in deep enough to allow the tranny to mate flush to the engine-----?
