[Healeys] Crush Washers

The standard copper washers should work fine to seal the bolt head. However, you need to use new ones or anneal the old ones before you reuse them. Heat them up until they are red hot and immediately quench them in cold water. Also, don’t over torque the bolt.

Looking for some advice.

Am in the process of chasing down an old leak on the front/gen. side cover on my BJ8.

Plan is a new gasket with Hylomar; new bolts with thread sealant and new crush washers.

Query is tighening and orientation of the crush washers. Harold suggested snugging them up then about another 1/4 turn.

Is there perhaps an accepted torque setting ?

Also correct orientation of the washers - they don't appear to be symmetrical - there is thinner side about the center.

Help as always appreciated,

rg
