[Healeys] Crush Washers

Looking for some advice.Am in the process of chasing down an old leak on the front/gen. side cover on my BJ8.Plan is a new gasket with Hylomar; new bolts with thread sealant and new crush washers.Query is tighening and orientation of the crush washers. Harold suggested snugging them up then about another 1/4 turn.Is there perhaps an accepted torque setting ?Also correct orientation of the washers - they don't appear to be symmetrical - there is thinner side about the center.
