[Healeys] non-Healey puzzle

Does the solonoid move the bulb? If it does I suspect it changes how the light hits the reflector and thus gives you a dipped/main beam.
The fact that the headlight on has 2 wires
Supports this as well as it is fitted on the left (away from on coming traffic)

The RH (driver’s) side headlamp is “normal” – two wires. What on earth is this contraption on the LH headlamp? He’s never seen a headlamp with a solenoid and these other bits. ( I once had a late-‘30s MG-SA and I don’t remember the headlamps having anything like this!)
