I have noticed that conflict, too. I vote for adjusting them when cold on the premise that the gap will diminish when the engine is hot, which is the reason for having a gap in the first place. Also, as I recall, my Elgin Cam instructions say to adjust when cold.

Subject: [Healeys] Valve adjustment

Listers,

I am trying to adjust the valves on my 66 BJ8. The valve cover states to adjust the valves to .12 with the engine hot. This is what I have always done.

I now discover the manual states to adjust the valves to .12 with the engine cold. I have never done the cold adjustment.

The manual also states to adjust the valves to .15 for competition with the engine cold.

As usual, I bow to the wisdom of the list. TIA.

Fred,
66 BJ8
