William,
I don´t remember this, as I was born in 1957, but heart of it ever and ever
;-). Think we Germans (now part of Europe) learned our lesson. We still dig
out lenthy iron explosives called bombs from that time period. Last week
there was another one found in Cologne and thousands of peaple needed to be
evacuated to be on the save side when it was disharmed. There are still
found about 5 to 10 a year, just in Cologne.
But we were not involved in Vietnam, not in the Irak. Nowadays most of the
Germans hate military and I am happy I found a way not to do any millitary
service, Germans of my age usually had to do.
I am an European, born in Germany but very close to the French border and
now live close to the Dutch and Belgian border and have many friends there.
I worked in international business. Friends are friends wherever they come
from and I stay away from those people and places in the world I do not
like and which scare me.
Btw. Any kind of wappon I see scares me.

Josef,
"Its more common to English and Germans that we do not understand the
Americans ;-)." Probably true, but you have to admit we're entertaining...
As for the other part i believe Mr. Spidell was referring (humorously) to
the "discussion" that took place in the early 1940s. It's what the Brits
would cal a bit of dry humor.

There are no disputes between Englishmen and Germans. Its just a
discussion. I think I have as many friends in the UK than in Germany and I
am working part time for an British company called Austin-Healey Club. So
no problem at all.
Its more common to English and Germans that we do not understand the
Americans ;-). I may need to include the French and other Europeans as
well. Meanwhile we really fear what´s coming in the future with your new
president elect.

Can't we all just get along? Bad things happen when Englishmen and Germans
get into disputes ;)

Simon,
Most times there is no simple answer to a simple question.
You want to know. I am happy to answer. But please let me answer as I like.
