[Healeys] Rear axle gasket question

I suppose Kees has a point but with the amount of oil spray, etc. that
trails back from the engine and transmission I doubt that corrosion would
be a great possibility.

I lightly soak the diff gasket in water simply because it is easy to tear
it while installing. I agree with Alan that given proper mating surfaces
sealant compound should not be necessary but nevertheless I generally put a
light smear of gray RTV on the gasket prior to installation. Alternatively
I have run without a gasket using sealant only and that works as well. In
fact some racers do that claiming that it creates a bit of toe-in though I
doubt it really matters.
