[Healeys] Brakes sticking

When the brakes are dragging you need to know if the problem is all the brakes or just the fronts. If all the brakes are dragging it is either the servo or master cylinder. Most likley the servo.

With the front being so hot it is most likely the front pads or calipers. Since you said that the pads went in hard that tells me that the problem is the front pad installation, or the caliper pistons are sticking and not returning.

Brake servo.
Try stopping the engine then gently pressing the pedal severs times.
If they release and the pedal drops noticeably that's the problem.

Subject: [Healeys] Brakes sticking

A problem developed with the brakes sticking on. Have recently installed new ceramic brake pads. It was a tight fit with the added felt type backing? I used the metal shims also? The rubber diaphragm in the brake booster(Lockheed)was also replaced. It was torn and leaked. Used Lucas brand Dot 4 fluid. System is well bled. Stopping is very good.

The calipers were rebuilt with stainless pistons and all rubber hoses and some steel lines were replaced. New rear wheel cylinders. This was done in 2002.

New pads have about 7-800 miles. Break in as per instructions. Drove to Enclave and noticed the sticking when in stop and go traffic on a very hot day. Temp gauge reached 212 at times. This is when the problem starts, in traffic, gauge temps over 190, very hard pedal develops.

Noticed after these runs both front wire wheels are very hot to the touch. Back wheels normal.

No sticking in cool ambient temps and gauge reads normally 180-190.

Thanks for the wisdom……..
