[Healeys] Removing Big Nut on Crankshaft

Hi Bob,
Try this trick. Pull the plugs and rotate the engine until #1 cyl is almost
all the way down the on the POWER stroke.
Stuff as much 1/2" rope or better yet "sash cord" down #1 plug hole as you
can, at least 3' of rope but keep the end because you will use that to get the
rope out.
Trying to loosen the nut will bring the piston back up but the rope will act
as a stop. Ideally you want that to occur when the piston is halfway up the
stroke.
You will probably need a bar at least 3' long to loosen the nut.

Listers,

What's the best way to lock up the engine/drivetrain so I can undo the big nut
on the end of the crank?

I've tried popping it loose with the starter but the starter doesn't supply
enough torque.

Bob
