One could always take the low tech approach and put check marks next to the 
parts you have in a Moss catalog.  Or maybe multiple checks or numbers if 
you have more than one, if you checked it before you ordered the original 
problem of not knowing what you have and ordering more than you need would 
be solved.  And it has pictures!

Not as modern and tidy as a database, but doable.
