Sven,
not sure this will be relevant to you, but just in case I'll mention
it: regarding the unequal braking, when my brakes were overhauled, I
found out that on one side, the bottom spring was put backwards and
this resulted in the automatic adjuster being too loose. Even if you
look at the Bricklin manual, you can't really tell by the drawing how
this spring is supposed to go. Flipping it the other way around
changed everything. Have a look on the couple of videos I've attached,
this should make my point easy to understand.
> Drums: it is almost impossible to get the AMC part here in GER
you mentioned your replacement drums are a bit higher than the
originals, I'm not sure what measurements are involved here, but in an
article John Blair reported that some replacement drums are thinner
than the stock drums, so they end up rubbing on the backing plates. I
experienced that too. I ordered my replacement drums from Bob Hoffman
since like you, the parts are like impossible to find in France, I
guess that's the closest match I could get and I really appreciate
Bob's business. One solution is to resorting to washers to make for
the thinner replacements, another suggestion may be to put a new brake
surface with a piece of metal.
For my part, I chose to make spacers out of the stock drums. I
measured a difference of 3.5 milimeters (approx. 9/64") by measuring
the depth of the drums instead of their "faces" (110.2 mm - 106.7 mm =
3.5 mm). You may have a look on this video to get a better
understanding, though I'm not sure this will be relevant to your
problem of higher drums.

dont know if you over there have similar institutions, but here in
Germany
every 2 years- we have to go with our cars to an official third party
called TV (technical supervision/ certification institute).
When you drive there with your car, these guys check almost all
technical
(electrical, mechanical) and have to certify your baby is safe/ ready
for
the road.
This year, it is now the third time that they have found the same
issue(s)
on my #2224:
-Rear brake working not equal (lh: 360 rh: 160) `25%
deviation
allowed
-Hand brake working not equal (lh: 440 rh: 160) `50%
deviation
allowed
And every year it is the same brake: rear rh side!
The last 2 times pulled away the drums, disassembled all the hardware
cleaned everything and reassembled everything by using brake special
paste
and try to put the adjuster to a balanced set up.
I have checked especially the adjuster and its work: no problem.
I have bled the system, but then asking myself what this interfere the
hand
brake and its problems
1. problem: how to balance these the best way, when the rear end still
interfere one side by set up from the other. If have read several
tutorials,
seen a lot of youtube videos, but everytime the showing a front axles
with
drums and talking about..
2. problem: what is the right tightness for such brakes. Last time
with that
issue I set the brake so loose, that the measures were ~okay, but
close to
zero. The engineer from TV stretch this point a lot..
Status quo:
Since restoration in 2007/08 the drums, shoes and all the hardware
seems to
be like new/ not worn out.
-I have bought new shoes, springs etc. compared these with the old
parts.
Everything seems to be okay.
-Adjuster kit for the right side is not available at the moment, but
will
delivered in a few days.
-Drums: it is almost impossible to get the AMC part here in GER. In
one of
the older part cross reference lists I have seen that there should a
replacement (AIM #2515-68065). The #2515 my local parts dealer could
identify as a Chrysler part and is was on stock. These drums are ~2
higher
than the original ones, but all other measures seems to be comparable.
By
checking the measures it shows up that the old drums are close to the
unused measures.
3. problem: Now, I can reassemble everything with the new parts, try
to
adjust it the ~10th time, but how get I fixed my 2 issues?
Any help really appreciated!
Thanks in advance and best regards
Sven
