Just by chance, are you sure that the clutch disc was put in
correctly. The disc has on it flywheel side and trans side.

Having this in
backwards will leave you short of correct mounting.   Dale

    Put the tranny in gear, and rotate the output
flange a bit. This will in turn
cause the input shaft to rotate, hopefully
allowing the splines to align
between the clutch disk and the input shaft.

hi,
all.  I had to remove the tranny to replace the ring gear.  I noticed
the
bearing was also scored, so I replaced it as well.

I put the flywheel and the
clutch back, using the alignment tool, but we
can't seem to fit the gearbox.
it gets within 1/2 to 1 inch but no farther.

any ideas what's wrong?
