Are you certain the choke is fully released. That of course will cause a ri=
ch condition.
I'd be looking there for an issue.

Subject: [WPTA] 1979 Spitfire Carb Adjustment

Hello All,

My 1979 Spitfire is running very rich (to the point of black smoke coming o=
ut of exhaust). I attempted to adjust the carburetor needle valve by start=
ing with the needle valve all the way out and turning using the Allen key a=
djustment tool to turn 1/4 turn at a time. This had no effect. Using a sc=
rewdriver to lift the carb piston still resulted in the engine rpm increasi=
ng. I started over in the full rich position and turned the Allen key 3 tu=
rns to the lean position. This had no effect. Any suggestions?

Much appreciated,
 Chuck Kuhn
