A static charge from a 5gal plastic bottle into a funnel ignited a most
spectacular fire at Thunderhill this weekend.
No one was hurt, a Porsche lost a paint job.
The fire was not easily extinguished. It was only snuffed out when a large
extinguisher was used. Sorry, dont know capacities. By the time the fire
truck got there, the fire was out.

After much yakking about capacitance, ESD, impedances, discharges to ground
etc, the general conclusion reached was that the only way to avoid the
danger is to fuel up at the pump with a grounding strap.
Since this is often quite inconvenient, does anyone have any suggestions on
how to mitigate this danger?
cheers
malcolm

PS
We have already discounted driving a steel spike into the asphalt!
