How about 15% loss for a Hewland( rear wheel drive, all straight cut
gears), up to 20% loss for typical rear wheel drive helical trans, and up
to 25% for front wheel drive (Mini) if it uses all those nasty helical cut
drop gears. Your results may vary depending on if the trans. is direct in
top gear, or if the power has to go thru a gear train in top
gear. Straight cut gears take less power than helical cut.
