Dave:
We had planned to go this route when we built our two vintage race Midgets
('65 and '67 square fender cars) and even acquired a set of Vega wheels.
We, too, had gone to the 7/16" studs. The Vega wheels we found had 1/2"
bolt holes and we didn't want the extra slop, despite using beveled nuts,
so we found other wheels that fit. It would have been quite a challenge
with the width anyway. We ended up with 5 1/2" Western wheels and Hoosier
A70-13s and still had to install Panhard bars to keep the tires from
rubbing. And we pulled out the fender lips as far as we thought was prudent.
Let us know if you get the installation to work.
