Marc:

The 914/4 and 914/6 are also welcomed by SCCA Vintage on, I believe, a
nationwide basis.  In Florida, we accept them through 12/31/1972 if they
are faithfully prepared to the period.  HSR, an organization permitting
more liberal modifications, accepts 914s regardless of year or
preparation level!  There are many, many running in Vintage throughout
the USA!

Yes, they make excellent race cars due to their mid-engine design and
are relatively inexpensive to maintain (once they are fully sorted). 
The manufacturer (VW vs. Porsche) varies depending on the year and model
of the 914 in question.  Either way, many parts are common.
