Not really relevant to the thread, more like distantly related.

When you drive through a ford you must have more pressure in the exhaust 
pipe than the water outside exerts on the exhaust otherwise you will get 
that kind of damage.
The trick is to go forward very slowly with high revs and lots of clutch 
slipping and then all will be well. If the water is sufficiently deep to 
reach the fan then disconnect the belt. This will minimise the spray in the 
engine bay and stop the fan blades from damaging the rad.
