Actually, I have some doubts about that.  Certainly aluminum conducts heat
better than cast iron.  But the alloy drums have steel liners, meaning there
is a dissimilar metal interface in the heat conduction path.  And since TRF
doesn't mention it, these drums may or may not have been made with the
patented 'Al-fin' process, which helps reduce the thermal resistance of the
interface.

And really, how often is heat dissipation from the rear brakes a problem ?

IMO, it's just "cool factor", at least on the street.
