I rarely use a top anymore, but I loved this trick when I did :

Remove (and save) the plates on the rearmost bow that attach it to the
webbing. If you want, you can reinstall the plates without the webbing
trapped under them, so you can find them if you ever want them again. Now,
when you erect the bows, leave the rearmost bow folded forward against it's
neighbor. Also leave the 'dog legs' folded as usual, while you install the
top loosely over the bows. Then straighten out the dog legs, and last move
the rearmost bow back as far as you can. If your top is still tight and
cold, it may not go all the way back at first, that's OK. If the top
loosens up as you drive, you can just reach up and push the rear bow back
some more.
