Patrick, no you dont need to cut the fuel line, assuming you take out all the
spark plugs, which is normal procedure anyway in order to provide a near
constant cranking speed.  With all the plugs out, there will be no intake
manifold vacuum and hence it will not draw any gas from the carburetors.
Also, I just remove the white wire from the coil to the distributor.  Normally
the test is done on a warm/ hot engine, so make sure your car has reached
normal operating temperature first.  If you see a cylinder thats low, try
putting a tablespoon of oil in the cylinder and repeat the test.  If the
reading remains the same, it usually means your valves are leaking.  If the
reading goes up it usually means you have a ring problem.
