I have a little steering play primarily on the passenger side wheel, which
appears to be originating form the 40 year old silent bushes. The bushes are
tight, but seem to give when under pressure. I pulled the Idler arm and
bracket apart and they fit fine with no apparent play.

My question to the list or those that race on the list: Is there an
alternative to the rubber on the bush insert? Has anyone used a brass or a
dense phenolic to replace the rubber. I have a small lathe and could
fabricate something providing that it will improve the steering rigidity and
not reduce any safety considerations.

Maybe it's been tried and the results aren't worth the effort.

Any info would be appreceated, pro or con.
