Ian, this sounds like a dodgy connection in the wire harness. I'd start at
the harness connection to the left hand side headlight. There is a four
way connector where the main beam wire connects to the left hand headlamp
and the wire that leads to the right hand side headlamp. Since the blue
indicator works I suspect the switch is not at fault.
