Hi Tom,
The plate actually reads "This vehicle complies with all U.S. Federal
safety standards applicable on APL 1-1968", with the date being stamped. This
is not the date the car was built, it is simply the date of the Federal
standards to which it complies. To my knowledge no Triumphs ever had the build
date recorded on the vehicle (though individual components will have date
stamps),
