Nope, the nut just holds the mechanism inside to the housing.  As Scott
said, you cannot separate the tube from the gage without ruining the whole
setup.  (Although, replacing the ether is something I plan to try to do
someday.)

Best bet would be to send your old gage and it's detached tube to one of the
people who rebuild them, Mo-Ma in Albuquerque for example.  Tain't cheap,
tho, expect to pay around $130 + S&H.

Since the dash opening is a standard size, you can also shop around for
aftermarket gages that look a little less out of place.  I'm currently using
a SunTune gage that at least has white hands and markings on a black face,
and a chrome trim.  The style of the face is completely different of course,
it's a 270 sweep movement, but it's good enough for the moment.

Another alternative might be an early TR4 gage.  They look reasonably at
home, and are less expensive in working used condition.  You'll also need
the TR4 sender (which will replace the TR3 sender), and a voltage
stabilizer.
