On some replacement pumps the casting scrapes against the pulley a bit. If this
is all that is happening you may be able to see evidence of the contact on the
pump. I recall grinding away a bit of the pump casting to eliminate this
contact.
However, this problem is something you would encounter immediately after you
install the pump/pulley -- I doubt it would suddenly appear later. So if your
metallic noise came on suddenly on a pump/pulley that had been in place awhile
perhaps it is something else.
