Bob
I just happened to read an entire book covering the subject of auto
maintenance service shops and their reputations for overcharging, overselling
and making costly and uninsured mistakes! From Jiffy Lube to Midas Mufflers
and Mineke, on and on. Even after hundreds of thousands of lawsuits many of
the big name and chain shops continue the practice.
Your wife's experience sounds like it was one of the scams taken right out of
this book.

ps; the author recommends smaller owner run shops with good reputations and
using name brand products (rather than bulk 'no name' stuff -especially for
your filters and oil)

My wife called from JiffyLube, said they told her that her engine needed
flushing because the oil was black/dirty..... my guess is it comes under the
heading
"Improving Profits".
Am I wrong? Should I have the engine flushed?
Thanks,
Bob
