Actually Steve, the U-matic would be more age-appropriate to the TR6. You 
should be looking for an AMPEX 7000 series 1" vtr or if picture quality is
important, a "quad" machine . You might however need a trailer to carry it
as it will not fit in the trunk.. (AMPEX's definition of portable was "with
handles and wheels" )

I believe the U-matic would be the 'period-correct' accessory, good luck
finding one !

As for positive-ground relays, all mine were in the box with the muffler
bearings, which was a total loss in the stock market crash.
