David :

I've been using one for many years. It's not exactly the same design as
they are selling now, but ...

I think it's worthwhile, if you do your own oil changes. It's noticeably
easier to change the filter, and dumps less hot oil down your arm (although
it still dumps some). No more fiddling with that stupid gasket! Oil
filters are available practically on every street corner (Walmart, Autozone,
etc.) too. If you're so inclined, you can even try the Fram filters that
include a dose of Teflon.

I'm not certain, mine may leak a little. The filter is always wet with oil,
but it's not clear if the adapter actually leaks or the oil blows back from
one of the other myriad leaks. One of my 'someday' lathe projects is to
turn an improved center piece for it, and try using a modern O-ring as the
seal between the adapter and head.

BTW, I see the Moss catalog finally notes that the spin-on adaptor does not
fit early TR2-3 with the bypass filter head. I don't believe the TRF
adaptor does, either, in spite of what their catalogs say. It only took me
10 years to convince Moss to add that note, I guess now I'll have to start
on TRF <grin>
