Dave :

They shouldn't be particularly difficult to get out, but make sure the
wires at the lower end are not catching against the edge of the stator
tube. I've had my original wires out and back in several times with no
problem, although I've heard that some replacement wires have thicker
insulation, which makes them difficult to get through the tube. Of
course, if the original woven outer insulation is so bad that it doesn't
come with the wires but instead bunches up, you are going to have a
problem ! In that case, I would cut the wires at the bottom end, and
try to pull individual wires through the tube, then clean out the
remains of the outer cloth.

The bullet connectors at the lower end are supposed to be staggered,
since there is not room in the stator tube for them to go through side
by side. It's worth checking this on your new wires, otherwise there
should be no reason for them not to fit easily through the tube. I use
"baling wire" (aka 20 ga solid steel) to pull the wires through the
tube.

Also, it may be possible to save your original harness, if it's only the
upper part that is frayed. I had the same problem at the lower end, so
I carefully snipped away the original cloth harness, and replaced it
with shrink tubing. Works good, and is located where no one but me will
ever see it.
