valve adj on tr3a

Just finished adjusting the valves on my 59 tr3a,I feel that I have adjusted 
them correctly but they are cosiderably noisier than before. Subscribing to the 
adage that I would rather hear them than smell them I still feel they are 
louder than any other solid lifter valve train I have heard. Are my concerns 
valid or are these engines just noisier than what I,m used to.
