Hey Gang,

In the last week, two different people have mentioned to me the "crazy"
procedure for setting valve timing according to the Bentley Tr4 manual.

My Triumph TR4 & 4A factory manual is (seems?)very straight forward. Just
put it together with the marks on the crank and cam sprockets opposite each
other with the engine at TDC #1.

Unless the valve timing was off by a sprocket tooth or more what could you
do about it anyway?

Am I missing something, or do earlier engines lack the marks? Was the
procedure changed in the TR4A edition of the manual?

And the valve timing is "set" once the engine is put together? Right? I mean
unless the chain breaks, stretches or if the engine is taken apart? What
gives?

Since I'm swapping cams this fall I'd love to know about this. I had planned
to "degree" the new cam using a degree wheel and a dial indicator.... If
only Moss would provide detailed specs...
