I have done this operation several times. First I might suggest installing
the TR4A door armrest. It has no hand grips which means it is less likely
someone will pull on it to close the door - that's how mine were ripped off
several times. I installed the chrome door pull handle used on the TR4.
The doors are the same so everything fits.
The inner strip is held on by special clips that first clip on the door, but
have a secondary lip that hold the strip. If your strip has only one
chrome/metal edge it goes down. The outer strip is held on by a different
style clip that grabs both the door panel and the strip within itself.
There should be depressions on the strip where the clips go; I believe
seven.
You can make a tool to hold the clips during installation. This will help a
lot. It basically involves making a U-shaped bend on the end of a sheet
metal stip, hack saw blade, whatever. You then load the clip into the bend
maybe with a bit of grease to hold it in place. Carefully feed this into
the top of the door opening and while holding the strip in place pull the
clip up onto the strip and door.
Your sequence of operation sounds right.
