Throw those sponges away, they are probably too hard and may be retaining dirt
particles as you wash that are causing the swirls. Wash the car using a gentle
car wash detergent (the nice gentle kind such as Meguiers gel wash) and two of
those yellow wash mitts. Use one for your paint, and one for grittier areas
such as wheels/tires/rocker panels etc. Don't mix them up. Write TOP on the
cuff of one of them with a permanent ink pen.

Get a five gallon bucket and slop lots of the suds and water on the car to wash
the dirt off. Swirl the mitt in the bucket often to get the dirt out of the
mitt and into the bucket. You want to remove dirt particles that could cut into
the paint even while you're washing it.

Wash a section at a time and from top to bottom, top, bonnet, trunk lid, and
rinse off as you go using a slow stream of water from a hose (float them little
particles away, don't blast them into your finish) without any type of
attachment to wash away the soap suds and rinse the car.

Immediately apply both your polish and the wax in a clean cool place since you
don't want to be rubbing dirt particles into your paint that WILL be there if
you wait until after lunch.

Hope this helps prevent the swirls...hate it when that happens.

Bud
