I don't think you will gain much power by disabling the air pump, but
it does prolong the life of the air pump itself!

If you remove it from the engine, then you also have to take care of 
the air injection pipes, which need to be plugged. Also do you have
emissions testing where you live? The car will fail the inspection
without the pump (at least this is the case in AZ).
