I had the identical thing happen on a TR4 OD tranny I put in my 59 TR3. No
pebble drop sound, but a huge whine and oil pouring out of the seals . I had
taken the tranny to the mechanic, out of the car and had installed it myself.
He gave me such grief that I worte him off to myself and to all my friends. I
then took the tranny, out of the car to another mechanic (yeah call me a
glutton for punishment) who worked on it. When he was through, if you engaged
the OD the thing virtually locked up. He said bring the car to me and I'll
fix it, which he did, No argument. The second guy bit the big one on the
job, but I'll send him all the business I can.
