20W50 is actually not much lighter than 90W gear oil.  Reason: they are
tested at different temperatures.  I think the VTR web site (www.vtr.org)
has got some info on lubricants, in the maintenance section.

Lubricant choice, like many other things, seem like a real "owner
preference" thing.  Luckily our Triumphs are robust enough that they don't
implode if you dump the wrong stuff in them ;-)
