I have been shopping around for a spitfire, and I have recently found
out that my uncle has a 1976 Spitfire, minus working engine. I'm told
it threw a conrod, after dropping a thrust washer.. It also just so
happens that he has a completely rusted out '76 TR7, that has less than
40K miles on it. It's my understanding that the TR7 used the same
transmission as the Spit, and it looks like it should mount right up.
My concern, though, are the engine mounts. Do those, by some strange
chance, match up also? Is it possible to fabricate a suitable adaptor?
I know that the TR7 engine isn't the greatest, but it has to be better
than that 1500! How about cooling? Exhaust? Thanks! I can get this
all for free, but I'm only going to do it if I know that it's going to
work. I'd really like to get the slant into the Spit. The extra power
would be nice!

(PS It's also my understanding that S-T ran a prototype Spit with the
1622(?) version of the slant-4, sometime in the late '60's. Where is
this car? Does anybody know how they mounted the engine? TX!)

Cheers,
