Mike,

I had the same problem when I replaced my clutch.  I put two long bolts
in where the standard ones went.  Put a nut on each and tighten them to
draw the transmission into the engine.  I then replaced them with the
proper ones and tightened them all down.  

I don't know if this is normal, but when I finished bleeding the slave
cylinder, everything worked fine and has been for over 15,000 miles.
