As other listers have written, the studs are threaded and peened over, so one
has to grind off the back of the stud before it can be screwed out. I have
done this with a air grinder and narrow grinding stone' however...
...I think it's easier to do this off the car. As you noticed the hub is damn
hard to remove (probably even if you have the Churchill M48(?) tool). Best bet
is to remove the six bolts holding the outer axle bearing assemble and remove
it, hub, and halfshaft. Take the assembly and have the hub pressed off the
axle. Warning, it might take a bit of force to do this. Took 15 tons last
time I tried it, others have reported more. One benefit of doing this is you
can also replace seals and bearings, ensuring that no lube finds it's way into
the brakes (been there, done that in a TR3B...)
