Yesterday I asked a question about my steering seeming sort of tight but I
don't think I was very clear in my explanation, I'll try again...

When I lift the front wheels off the ground, it is very hard to turn them
from side to side. I can certainly do so with the steering wheel. When I try
to do it by grasping one of the road wheels and moving it from side to side,
I am met with a lot of resistance. One local source (a mechanic) suggests
that I have something binding or seizing in the steering mechanism. The most
recent work was replacement of the outer tie rod ends. I suspect that they
are the culprits but am wondering if it is normal for the steering to be so
tight with new tie rod ends.

The tie rods are from TRF and of Far East origin. Prior to their
replacement, the front wheels were much easier to turn from side to side (by
grasping one of the wheels while they were off the ground). Are new tie rod
ends supposed to make the steering action noticeably tight or stiff or
should the wheels easily nicely from side to side when the wheels are off
the ground?

Any help appreciated.
